The display size is still one of the smaller Flickr generated sizes. Posted months ago. That's a really interesting question, and I don't think we really have a full picture of the current behaviour. The way things stood prior to the recent changes, old images that didn't have the pixel size generated originally wouldn't get it automatically, but would have one generated if the image was 'updated' in some way typically by rotating it and rotating it straight back again , but image that didn't have the larger Flickr generated sizes wouldn't gain them.

The 'update' technique works by generating new versions of all the Flickr sizes except the ones it doesn't , so if you've got copies embedded in other websites, blogs etc. If you don't, I'd suggest giving it a go and seeing what happens. If it does do useful things, you should be able to do a bunch of images in bulk using the Organiser.

Assuming we still have an Organiser, I haven't actually checked yet. I've noticed this as well and I agree with the OP. The default display size should be the largest size available, not the medium format. Displaying a small photo with a large black background is very ugly. Christopher Chan : The default display size should be the largest size available It is for me I mean, the largest that will fit in my browser without scrolling.

Are you sure that there is a larger size? Christopher Chan : I just looked at your photos that Mykonos one is great! If you click the 3 dots at the lower right of any photo, you can go to the old style "view all sizes" page, which lists everything available.

Brenda Anderson : Thanks Brenda! I notice that recent photos show their largest sized versions but my older photos don't, even when the larger versions are available. Here's an example : www. Thanks Christopher Chan, its the on the big black background that looks odd, especially when there is a larger size in the all sizes. This was done by flickr many moons ago and everything after a certain date was displayed as a size.

It more likely affects users who have larger photo streams or have been on flickr for a while. Its not in keeping with the new site's claims that all images should be viewed in full resolution or at least the biggest size that will fit in my browser. I'm hoping this will change.

Did anyone try the rotation thing? ColleenM : I used to have a Pro account but stopped paying when Yahoo first took over and made changes that I was not happy with. From that point on I have used only a free account. I have always been able to download photos at the original size, even when the photo has had downloading disabled.

I downloaded this on May www. Pro-tip: People like to connect with your eyes, so make sure your eyes and mouth, preferably a smile are visible in the smallest size of your Facebook profile picture.

Located at the top of your personal Facebook timeline, your cover photo is the perfect place to showcase your personality. A Timeline cover photo measures px by px. This is the minimum size that Facebook will display the photo at. If you peek behind the source code, you find that Facebook is storing a higher resolution version, and the upper limit seems to be px by px.

So, if you want the highest resolution image use those dimensions. Pro tip: Make your profile cover something personal that makes you look like a real human being. Avoid text and calls-to-action at all costs. Also, be aware that because of certain user interface elements, parts of your profile cover will be covered up.

For Business Pages, Facebook cover photos are an incredible way to display what your brand is about, and visually connect with your target audience. However, the cover photo dimensions are slightly different from that of personal profiles. They display at a size of px by px.

As with everything else, Facebook will store a higher resolution version if you upload it. The maximum resolution you can upload is px by px. The great thing about these new Facebook Page Cover Photos is that they no longer have any obstructed area on them. There are no interface items over the cover photo, nor is your profile photo partially blocking it.

As with my previous recommendation, however, I would not use this space as just another banner advertisement. Use it to give personality to your page—a branding opportunity rather than a marketing opportunity. Bonus Tip : If you want to design your Facebook cover photos with ease, there are two tools I recommend: Canva , and Picmonkey.
