The way things stood prior to the recent changes, old images that didn't have the pixel size generated originally wouldn't get it automatically, but would have one generated if the image was 'updated' in some way typically by rotating it and rotating it straight back again , but image that didn't have the larger Flickr generated sizes wouldn't gain them.
The 'update' technique works by generating new versions of all the Flickr sizes except the ones it doesn't , so if you've got copies embedded in other websites, blogs etc. If you don't, I'd suggest giving it a go and seeing what happens. If it does do useful things, you should be able to do a bunch of images in bulk using the Organiser.

This was done by flickr many moons ago and everything after a certain date was displayed as a size.
It more likely affects users who have larger photo streams or have been on flickr for a while. Its not in keeping with the new site's claims that all images should be viewed in full resolution or at least the biggest size that will fit in my browser. I'm hoping this will change.
Did anyone try the rotation thing? ColleenM : I used to have a Pro account but stopped paying when Yahoo first took over and made changes that I was not happy with. From that point on I have used only a free account. I have always been able to download photos at the original size, even when the photo has had downloading disabled.
